I'm skipping N-U for the moment and working backwards in the alphabet. I'm not sure which section I'll do next. R, S and T look to be hard work. Still, if my headache gets no worse, I can probably do most of the rest of the alphabet today. I hope.

Vampire Game 2-10 - I was very wary of this title because vampires are simply Not My Thing, but I've enjoyed it a lot and am glad that my library carries it. I do think that it's a good thing that I don't have to deal with Ishtar in real life. She comes across as easy to love but also easy to want to strangle. I'm actually starting to remember character names, well some character names, anyway, which tends to be a sign that a manga is working pretty well for me (and that I haven't had any long gaps between volumes).

Vampire Knight 1-2 - This manga treads closer to the line of things that bother me about vampire stories but hasn't crossed over it, at least not in these volumes. I do hope that the lead female character uses her intelligence and common sense. Is that a forlorn hope?

Vaughn, Evelyn. Lost Calling (Madonna Key 1) - I got this from BookMooch as a gamble. I think the person I got it from was doing a two for one, and I took it as my second book. I didn't find the romance particularly compelling, but I enjoyed the rest of the plot quite a bit, enough that I'm looking for the other books in the series to see where that goes. (I'm also a little scared of the other books since there are several different authors. I hope that the background arc holds its promise.) The background story involves mystic artifacts that can be used either to destroy the world or to change the world and centers on a Marian cult that is likely a cover for an older religion. Nothing profound, but it could be fun if done right.

Wallflower 1 - This amused me a lot. I'm going to be keeping my eyes open for further volumes (and regretting that my budget for buying manga is zero). I expect that, in a few volumes, I'll start to differentiate more among the quartet of guys. Right now, though, I'm just enjoying the female lead. I hope that she doesn't lose her personality later in the series.

Wilce, Ysabeau S. Flora Segunda - It's been a while since I read this. Please excuse the fact that the details are hazy. I found the setting fascinating and kept wanting to see more of the world and of the minor characters. I didn't dislike the main character or her best friend. I just kept wishing that she'd think a little bit. (This is a common problem, I suspect, for adults reading YA. I've noticed it while watching Disney movies with Delia, too.)

W.I.T.C.H. 1: The Power of Five - This very short book is a tie-in with the kids' cartoon. I picked it up at the library after seeing a fraction of an episode and being intrigued. I suspect that, if I knew the show before coming to the book, I'd like the book better. It was too slight for me. It might have made a decent first third of a novel. It introduced the main characters and brought them together. That was it. The book also might be better if it were read as part of a binge of the series of books (at least, I assume that there're more books).

W Juliet 1-7 - Yes, I have a definite weakness for cross dressing manga. It helps that the lead characters in this one are engaging and not stupid. The male lead has to get through his last two years of high school as a girl. If he succeeds, his father will allow him to become an actor. If he fails, he has to move back home and prepare to inherit the family dojo. I do keep waiting for someone to suggest the easy eventual solution (though I'm not sure that it'll end up being used)-- The female lead also comes from a dojo family. She has four brothers, and the male lead has three sisters (one already married).

Wrede, Patricia and Caroline Stevermer. The Mislaid Magician - I recall enjoying this a lot, but I don't remember much about it apart from that. Well, there were dogs involved, too, and railroads and characters who I liked.

X/1999 13 - I'm attempting to pick up momentum to finish the volumes of this series that are actually out. I've had most of them for a couple of years but just haven't finished them. The biggest stumbling block now is that it's been so long that I've forgotten who the various characters are. I'm just going to have to deal with it, though. I'm not willing to reread the earlier volumes right now, not when I've got so much else to read.

XXXHolic 9 - Um... I ought to have something to say, but my impressions of this series are still very fragmented. I've read the volumes so far apart that I'm having trouble tracking story threads.

Yolen, Jane. Here There Be Dragons - Yolen has collected her short stories and poems about dragons in one volume. Some I liked a lot. Some I didn't like so much.

Yoshinaga, Fumi. Lovers in the Night - Lots of not particularly memorable smut.

Zatch Bell 1-7 - I'd have read more of this if my library had it. I've enjoyed it. I guess I have a soft spot for shonen series involving characters I like (or maybe I'm willing to like the characters more readily). I suspect that it's because I know that the shonen series won't often hit my problems with seeing characters embarrassed/humiliated. I find these sorts of fights to see who'll rule the world much easier to keep reading than I do the relationship tangles that turn up in more realistic titles.

Zodiac P.I. 2-4 - I mainly finished this series because I found it all on the shelf. It wasn't bad, but it didn't really appeal to me either. I kept wanting to smack the female lead for annoying mannerisms, and the male lead made even less of an impression.

Zombie Powder 1 - This volume neither hooked me on the manga nor turned me off from reading future volumes. I'll give v.2 a chance to see if the story grows on me. I have some hope for the sort of weirdness that appeals to me-- Just the notion of trying to track down a substance that can raise the dead appeals to me.

Zyword - A very pretty manga that's largely incoherent in plot. It obviously needs several more volumes and won't get them.

As usual, discussion is more than welcome.
