The Rec & Ed dance class didn't end up working out. Not that Delia didn't enjoy it-- The family providing us with transportation didn't get into the class even though we signed up two hours later than they did and did get in. The mother suspects that it's because they had scholarships. She thinks that the department simply doesn't process scholarship registrations until last. I find that offensive but am not sure what I can do about it.
At any rate, the Rec & Ed people said that they couldn't get all three kids into any of the dance classes because they were all overfull but that they could get us into a Saturday art class. I'm not hugely impressed with the art class as it's meant for 2-4 year olds. That means that all the projects have to be safe for toddlers and that they're not necessarily particularly challenging for Delia. She's having fun, though.
The other mother says that, next round of classes, they won't be scholarship students. We'll all sign up together (we couldn't this time because she didn't have all the information she needed from me). I suppose that the outcome then will say something about whether or not it's prejudice against scholarship students. If they screw things up, we'll be left with incompetence and prejudice against students with Spanish family names (which we don't have but the other family does).
The other mother and I also discussed the possibility that I might watch her two year old while she takes the two girls to a class as that will open up a lot more possibilities. There aren't very many classes that will take a two year old, but there are a lot for four/five year olds. I hope it works out. I don't know how much I'll enjoy watching a two year old. I suppose it will depend on how much trouble he gets into and how long it takes me to learn his habits.
The older girl from that family will be at Delia's school next year. I'm hoping to have them in the same class. Most years, the school has three, one all day for at risk students, one morning and one afternoon. What we get next year will depend on enrollment. Well, there will still be, at minimum, the at risk class and one other.
