Aug. 20th, 2012 10:16 amScott worked Saturday. He had to be prepared to go in early and to work twelve hours, but luckily, they didn't need him early. Eight hours is quite long enough for them to have him.
In the late afternoon, our neighborhood had a potluck. They blocked off one block and put up card tables and chairs gathered from the neighborhood. They even put up a low net in the middle of the street so that the kids could play badminton. I baked bread (in our bread machine) and took that. Most of the food was salads of various types-- bean, pasta, cucumber.
Scott came late because he had to shower after work (and, he tells me, he almost fell asleep). We sat with a couple we've known for quite a while. The guy is someone I knew in college. We lived in the same dorm and were briefly in the same gaming group. Even though they live so close, we really only see them at the neighborhood potluck.
Delia had a grand time, running around with the other kids. I'd been worried about her because, the day before, she had a slight fever (no other symptoms). I wasn't at all sure I should be letting her interact with other kids. I mean, she seemed fine, and she'd not have forgiven me if she'd missed it, but it hadn't been twenty-four hours since the fever. Twenty-four hours is the rule of thumb for going to school.
Sunday, Scott was off, and Delia had a friend over for a play date. Scott did the library run and mowed the lawn (pretty much the first time all summer). I did laundry.
After dinner, we worked some on program for helping anxiety in kids. It's from a book and is, step by step, cognitive behavioral therapy. We're all three doing all the exercises so that Delia doesn't feel that she's carrying the burden of it alone. This is the second week, and we did some mapping of thoughts and feelings. We'll be doing that all this week. Delia complained, after bedtime, that thinking about the stuff that worries her made her more worried and so unable to sleep. I think the program is in twelve chapters and is meant to be done one chapter a week. There's homework specifically for the parents, too. I'm doing that even though Scott is technically in charge (Delia said she wouldn't do the program with me. She's okay with doing it with both of us as long as Scott's in charge).
Today, Delia started vacation Bible school at the church across the street from her school. We've not done that before as it's always previously conflicted with other things we've had scheduled. It's only costing $5 for the week, and she gets a t-shirt as part of the deal. I don't know much about the church except that they're some form of Baptist. Their website talks about welcoming diversity, but what that means to them, I don't know. I'm simply assuming that the stuff that I might object to is unlikely to come up during vacation Bible school for the ten and under crowd.

Date: 2012-08-20 08:40 pm (UTC)I'm also not willing to run a game solo. I would require somebody to help me out if Scott weren't available.
I'd have to run an old game. I don't have the time or energy to write a new game right now. On the positive side, my old games are so old that even people who've played them before have probably forgotten a lot of the details.
