Voting for the Finish-a-thon on multific has opened. Those of us who've signed up to participate are committing either to finishing or adding 10,000 words to a fic selected via poll by whoever cares to vote. Anybody with an LJ account can vote.

Voting takes place here. There are a lot of polls, two for each participant, so voting for everybody can be time consuming. The instructions are also a little confusing. Basically, if you're not a participant, not committed to writing for this, you need to vote in the first poll. Participants get two votes per other author (and no votes for their own polls) and so have two polls to vote in. There's a 'not a participant' option in each of the participant only polls, but I think that's mainly there so that people who aren't participants can cancel accidental votes.

If you want to vote just on my entry, it's here. I put up nine fics. I didn't post "Rheotaxis" as an option because I may be writing that for my livelongnmarry winning bidder. That disqualifies it for this ficathon. I asked specifically.

I do encourage voting. How often do you get to tell people what to write?

I noticed that you write Amber fanfic, a commodity in sadly short supply. I voted for one of your Amber bunnies, but at the moment it looks like there aren't enough Amber enthusiasts around for any of the Amber options to win. :(

I run Amber games when I have time and players, so I think writing fic goes with the territory. Both of those plotbunnies come from the same prompt. Several years ago, somebody asked for Amber fic for Yuletide, listing Random and Merlin as the characters and giving no other details. I saw the prompt when I was looking to write a New Year's Resolution fic in order to qualify to participate in the next Yuletide. I didn't end up writing anything because I wasn't at all sure what the person was looking for, but I found myself thinking about what stories I might tell with those two characters.

The Random/Merlin one was the one that I voted for,. as I thoughtn that it sounded as though it could be interesting. I was sorry that their meeting was occasioned by the death of Vialle, though. She was a favourite of mine, and one of the few characters to apparently flout the unwritten rule of Amber that no character can be altogether what they at first appear.

I also like Vialle a lot. I just wanted something set long after the Merlin books and was trying to think what would be important enough to get Merlin to Amber again and to get him and Random talking. Assuming that Merlin became King in the Courts, he and Random would have many things in common that nobody else would quite understand, but they'd also have a lot of barriers preventing them from spending time just talking with each other.

On my recs page on my website, there's a rec for a Vialle fic that I got for Yuletide a couple of years ago. It's good.
