the_rckOkay. I think this is the last time I sign up for a ficathon or fic exchange with an August deadline. I've done it twice and have gotten very ill during late August twice. Writing's hard when I'm having trouble doing basic stuff like standing upright and breathing.
As the above paragraph indicates, I'm sick. I got a head cold last weekend that gave me miserable headaches during a good portion of the week and has now drifted down to my lungs. I'm not wheezing and hope I won't get there, but breathing's not feeling quite right. I can tell that, if I overdo, I'll be wheezing. I probably should pull out my peak flow meter and check that. It just seems like a lot of effort right now when I already know that walking from one end of the house to the other will leave me dizzy.
With luck, I'll manage to do my final editing on the fic tonight. It's not going to get the in-depth stuff that I really wanted to do, but I think I can manage some editing. That is, I can't make it as good as it might be, but I can make it better than it is right now. It's not awful now. I just know that it could be better.
Of course, a story almost always *could* be better. I'm just having to put the stopping point a lot sooner than I would have chosen.
This week was going to be nasty even without my being sick. Cordelia has science center camp again, so I'll have to walk her there, wait while she's in camp (2.5 hours) and then walk her home. I hope I can. I'm not entirely certain of my ability given the hills involved. I'm also concerned about sitting out in the heat and about the things I'll have to carry back and forth. I'm half wishing that I'd signed her up for the morning session because it would be cooler on the way there. (I'm also wishing it were next weekend so that we'd be going to school instead of to camp. The walk to school is a lot shorter and doesn't involve hills.)
