Yuletide season is fast approaching. The brainstorming post is up on the main community. People are talking about what they're going to nominate and trying to persuade other people to try particular movies, books, TV shows, etc. I only made it through about four pages of comments (I will go back and go further). I felt overwhelmed by the sheer number of things mentioned. So many of them are things I've never heard of, have heard of but am not at all interested or know but not well enough to write.

Every year, I wonder how many fandoms there will be that I can actually write. It usually turns out that there are plenty, but I always worry. The sheer number of things people put forward make it hard for me to filter until nominations are done and I can get my hands on a list of nominated fandoms. Then I find twenty or thirty that I could conceivably write.

This year, I know what I'm going to nominate. First is Rudyard Kipling's poem, "Helen All Alone." My guess is that that's the one I'll match on to get a fic written for me. I mentioned it in the brainstorming post, and a few people said they'd be willing to write it. "Helen All Alone" is short enough (and public domain, I believe!) that anybody could take five minutes to become familiar with it.

My other two fandoms are rarer (and harder to pick up just for the purpose of writing a story)-- I may be the only one who offers to write them. My other two fandoms are the six episode anime, Shamanic Princess, and the seven volume manga, Planet Ladder. I've been asking for Planet Ladder fic since the first time I signed up for Yuletide. I suspect it will never happen. The series was obscure to begin with and isn't getting more widely known. I want Bamvivrie fic!

All of this makes it more urgent that I finish chapter 20 of Rheotaxis. I'm so close, but I'm barely creeping forward. Even once this draft is done, there'll be a lot of work because, to move the draft forward, I left out one thread of what's going on. I have to go back and put it in.

Once chapter 20 is done, I'll be studying the UCon LARP. I've committed to doing that, and I've forgotten most of the details of the scenario. I won't be able to run it unless I know it backwards and forwards. I have to make sure Scott puts in for the time off that's promised to. I thought, when I registered to run the event, that he'd already done that, but he hasn't. He says that, if worst comes to worst, he'll call in that day, but I'd rather he have the vacation time.
