Fic Opportunities

fandom_stocking looks very interesting. The idea is that people post wishlists for fandoms they love and that other people browse the lists and fill whatever requests they can with icons, comment fics, good wishes and so on.

Most of the posted wishlists are for things I couldn't possibly manage-- they skew heavily to fandoms I don't know-- but I enjoyed browsing them. Maybe, after I finish my yuletide fic, I'll see if I can manage any comment fics. I don't tend to write short or fast, though, so I'm not making promises to myself about it.

Of course, if some you post wishlists, I might be more motivated. I don't know any of the people who're currently signed up. Information about signing up is here.

I haven't signed up. I might later, but I'm feeling reluctant to ask strangers for gifts right now.

I am contemplating trying to write for this Weiss Kreuz fic contest, but the timing is tight for me, especially with the back injury having devoured this last weekend. I do encourage other people who have time to write for it because I want good fic to read.

Okay, time to print out the draft of my yuletide fic so that I can figure out how to make it work. Right now, it's an amorphous blob of stream of consciousness rambling. That's not a fic even if it does have the word count to be. I think I know what I need to do to it. I just have to get started, and I don't have time to wait for sitting to become less uncomfortable (standing and lying down are equally uncomfortable, so I've no excuse).

Okay, I signed up. You can see if any of my fandoms rings a bell. (Hint: I put in Georgette Heyer :-) Not that I expect anyone to write me anything, per se, but I thought it'd be interesting.

It really is.

I wouldn't expect to win as I know I write things that aren't at the top of most people's list of things they'd like to read (not the same as thinking I write crap. I go there once in a while but usually come back out after the draft is finished). I'm unlikely to win a popularity contest.

Still, more fic would be good, both more fic by me and more fic by other people. I like writing, and I like reading.

I've only ever won a single contest for my writing - and I'll admit that I think it was because of the lack of competition, not the quality of my writing.

Like you, leaving any question of quality aside, my writing does not have a wide appeal.

... but I think I'd like to write for it anyway.

Yuletide has to be finished first, however. *vanishes in that direction*

Argh, that looks like fun, but I don't want to sign up and then not give people something. It seems a bit greedy on my part. :S

Well, you could give people good wishes or share the things you love about the fandoms they've listed. Good wishes were listed among the options for gifts, as I recall.

Of course, I've not signed up because I'm not sure I can manage anything for other people, so I'm not one to talk.
