Oct. 9th, 2012 05:32 pmSunday started out okay but took an abrupt turn into the decidedly rotten when I threw out my back while collecting laundry. I leaned and twisted, and something in my lower back, across the hips, seized up. Standing up hurts, walking hurts, moving around hurts, and bending over is pretty nearly impossible. Sitting still or lying down doesn't hurt, but standing up from sitting for a while is a dozen times worse than just walking around. Standing up from lying down isn't too bad, so I'm tempted to spend a lot of time in bed. I'm resisting that urge and trying to keep going with normal activities.
I'm alternating heat and cold on my back and doing the stretches the doctor gave me last time my back went like this. I ought to go to the doctor and get something for the pain, but I'm supposed to go in for my annual on Thursday, and I doubt my ability to get myself into town twice this week.
Delia's soccer team had a game Sunday afternoon. It was cold (low 40s) and rained through most of the first half. The girls played a pretty good game, ending up with a tie.
After the game we picked up bubble tea and went to the library. I had several holds in, nothing spectacular but still stuff I want to read. I'm trying to work my way through my library books as quickly as possible. I don't want to have any pending once I get my Yuletide assignment. I've got some time yet.
Apart from the back pain, Monday started out okay. Unfortunately, Scott had to work late. Doing that on Monday ought to mean the rest of the week is clear, at least. Then I discovered that we have a leak under the kitchen sink. It hadn't been enough to be noticeable until I ran the garbage disposal for a while. The drip is right off the bottom of the disposal. We had a full load of dirty dishes, and Scott won't, most likely, be able to work on the disposal until Thursday. We ended up putting a bucket under the drip and running the dishwasher anyway. Doing that put maybe a centimeter of water in the bucket, so I'm not particularly worried about accidentally running water in that side of the sink. We're avoiding doing it, but it's hard to remember.
We may have to shut off water to the sink tomorrow evening, though. Our cleaning lady comes on Thursday, and I won't be here when she arrives. I'll leave her a note telling her not to use the sink, but past experience suggests that her command of English may not be up to understanding that.
Scott has picked up a new garbage disposal. He'll take a look at what's required to take the old one out and put the new one in. If it looks like a quick undertaking, he might try it tonight, after soccer practice. I'm not altogether optimistic, however, and would prefer not to have the sink in pieces for a couple of days (He can't work on it at all tomorrow. He has a Babylon 5 session to run).
I'm just hoping that the rest of the week improves.
