Apr. 4th, 2017 11:48 pmI’m not going to do the WIP Big Bang this year. I couldn’t pick something to focus on that really pleased me, and I don’t think I want to stick around LJ just for that.
I’m also not signing up for Night on Fic Mountain because I couldn’t come up with enough things that I’d be enthusiastic about writing. I could do it. I only need to offer five fandoms, and I nominated four, but… I rather suspect that only one of my nominees will get a request from someone not-me. That would put it 50-50 as to getting that or getting whatever makeweight fifth fandom I came up with.
Running down the list of things I possibly could write for Night on Fic Mountain without specifying titles:
That one is really short and easy to acquire and might make an interesting fic, but I loathed it, and that might come through.
That’s in the public domain and available in a zillion versions online and off, but I’ve never actually read it before and am not sure who the nominated characters are. I feel like it’s something I should read, but I really don’t want to.
I liked that reasonably well, but I think I donated the entire set of ten books two months ago, and it’s not something I could write without reviewing canon.
I was in a production of that play thirty years ago and kind of remember how it goes. I don’t own it and am not sure how hard it is to come by. Also, it’s neither SF nor fantasy, and I generally can’t write that.
I already wrote fic for that with those characters. I’m not sure I have another in me.
I watched that recently and liked it enough to buy it, but when I look at the characters/relationships, I’m not sure who anybody is.
I adore that canon, but I’m not in the right headspace to write for it right now. Also, reviewing it would take a couple of weeks.
I kind of like that canon and the characters, but I only own about half of it.
I don’t own that one, but it should be easy to get from the library. I just can’t remember exactly who that one character is, so I’m not sure I can write the only nominated option.
One thing I nominated, I’m pretty sure nobody else has ever heard of, and nobody’s likely to watch five seasons of a PBS kids’ show just to write it for me. Also, if I both request and offer it, the summary will look like it’s matchable when it’s not.
One of the fandoms I nominated has had additional characters/relationships nominated, so that one’s viable to offer. I’m pretty sure I could write it again. I’m not as sure that I could write it without reviewing the very long canon.
One of the others is generally popular at Yuletide, so people might request it with the characters I nominated, but I’d have expected someone to nominate relationships because it tends to be a shippy fandom.
The last one I nominated, I picked a kind of weird character set. I’d be interested in writing them all, but I suspect no one will request the fandom with those characters. I’ve also got kind of sideways headcanons for this that might leak in if I try to write it right now.
Maybe Not Prime Time will work better.

Date: 2017-04-08 03:41 am (UTC)I'm not reading much now or watching much TV or many movies. I have no idea where all of my time is going, given that.
