It's been raining off and on all day, sometimes quite heavily. This makes Cordelia's wish to go for a drive and get out of the house a more difficult proposition. She could probably use some practice driving in the rain, but I'm not sure that it would be enjoyable as a birthday activity. Right now, she and Scott are trying to come up with ideas for shorter drives than the one they'd hoped to make.

Scott will be off work Monday through Thursday of next week, so he's hopeful that they'll still be able to drive to Port Huron.

We ordered food from Saica for lunch. We had to hurry it a bit because they close their kitchen between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. I expect that it makes sense for them on the financial side given that they're not really located to get drop in foot traffic (in times when foot traffic exists). It's just often inconvenient for us because our schedule isn't usual.

We haven't had the cheesecake, yet. I'm not sure when either will happen. I think we're all too full from lunch to really consider dessert.

Cordelia received two gifts, one book that I bought in January or February and one that Scott bought recently. She really wants money for the Spain trip next spring, so she asked for that rather than physical presents. She just asked after I'd already bought.

Also, each book definitely cost less than the cheescake, so... Cordelia can deal.

I'm trying to put together a thumb drive of Project Gutenberg books to send my mother. She's able to read on her Blackberry, but she doesn't have internet and so can't get more books. I thought about buying some DVDs for them so that they could both be occupied, but I'm not sure they have a way to watch DVDs.

I'm also doing sporadic indexing of the fics that I have on my hard drive. I want to add notes to remind me of which fic is which. The vast majority of the things I've already read blur together to the point that the combination of author and title tell me very little. Mostly, I only need half a dozen words to remind me.

Spain trip sounds all kinds of exciting! I lived there for several years and would be happy to be a resource, for you or Cordelia, if that would be at all helpful. (Just a little dated... it’s been almost 9 years since I was last there.) Anyway, feel free to send me a message here on DW, or write my gmail (syrenaofthelake). And feliz cumpleaños a Cordelia!

One of my favorite Project Gutenberg discoveries was Daddy Long-Legs, by Jean Webster.

There's a sequel, Dear Enemy, which I also enjoyed, though not quite as much.

Your mother might also enjoy Gene Stratton-Porter's books.
