Sep. 9th, 2013 11:47 amI thought of yet another Yuletide possibility. This one is The Princes of Earth by Michael Kurland. It's SF about a young man who wins a scholarship to the empire's top university. He comes from a quite conservative world and has some culture shock to deal with. He has a variety of adventures on his journey to the school and after arriving. I always thought that the book could have been a series quite easily. I liked the main character (I'd have to pull out my copy to remind myself what his name is) quite a bit.
I suspect that, if I look at my bookshelves, I'll think of all sorts of obscure sources for which I'd like fic. I've been refraining from doing that because I've already got so many ideas for fandoms, but I'm kind of curious as to what I'd come up with.
Rumor has it (I've yet to see official word) that we'll get four fandom nominations for Yuletide this year. That would be wonderful. I was expecting fewer, three as in years past or even two to limit tag bloat on AO3. Yuletide puts a tremendous strain on the archive and its staff all the way through the process.
A little later: I went down into the basement to check on character names for a couple of books I'm considering for Yuletide, and while I was down there, I did a fairly cursory sweep through, looking for things I'd be interested in Yuletide stories for. I found enough to keep me in fandoms for years to come, and that's without looking at the books upstairs or considering non-book fandoms. I'll post a cut tagged list later on, mainly to keep track of the ideas for my own benefit.
