Okay, I kind of fail at this website update Yahoo group thing. When I went to send a notice about the recent updates, I discovered that I hadn't announced anything since my Yuletide 2006 fic. ::hangs head:: I meant to. I thought I had. I was sure I'd at least announced "Snare."

It's been so long since I did anything with the list that my e-mail program immediately labeled my incoming copy of the message as spam. My e-mail program never thinks *anything* is spam. Ever. Except a message from myself via Yahoo.

Oops.

My guess is that this is a combination of my being embarrassed by my lack of progress on "Rheotaxis" and my being certain that I'd have more to announce if I just waited until some nebulous 'soon' that never actually arrived (or that I didn't recognize as having arrived). I tend to assume that most people who subscribe to the update list are primarily interested in "Rheotaxis." I could be wrong, though. I've no idea.

Delia's on the verge of being ready to read chapter books. Right now, she likes reading chapter books while listening to the CDs of the books. Her favorite is Little House in the Big Woods. She also likes Eleanor Estes' The Witch Family and Betty MacDonald's Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle.

I expect that, by the end of the summer, she's actually going to be reading that sort of book herself, without the CDs. That means that I'm trying to come up with ideas of books that I can suggest to her. Things that won't be too hard to read and that won't be too complicated for her. My impression is that she'll just stop reading something if it confuses her. There are a few issues I want to steer away from, but I'm not entirely sure right now what they are. Mainly, I want her to read books that she'll enjoy.

My memory suggests a few possibilities--

More of the Little House books.

Some Astrid Lindgren.

More Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle.

Peterson's The Littles series.

Ruth Chew.

Some Beverly Cleary.

Any other ideas? I'm sure I'm forgetting things. Plus, I don't know anything about anything that's more recent than about twenty-five years ago.

ETA: Delia will be five this month. She starts kindergarten in the fall.
