It's been a couple of weeks since I last wrote. I don't know that a lot has happened. If I were to take it day by day, I suspect there'd be something every day, even if it were only the ordinary and repetitive, but I've forgotten a lot. Before I forget more, I'm going to write about what I remember.

On 28 February (Tuesday), Scott took a half day off work. He had an appointment at 12:30 with the doctor who oversees his CPAP. I put off having lunch so that we could go out together after his appointment. Things ran late, so it was two before we headed out to Cafe Marie. I had what I usually do when I eat there, the cherry chicken sandwich with onion rings. Scott had apple cinnamon French toast and a side of sweet potato fries. On a whim, I ordered a drink they had on special, Italian hot chocolate. Scott and I ended up splitting the hot chocolate. It was too thick and rich for one person to survive an entire mug.

After lunch, we went home and relaxed until it was time to pick Delia up from Chinese (4:45). Scott looked up recipes for Italian hot chocolate. We probably could make it. I'm not sure I want to fuss with it, but we may try it next winter. The key would be getting the corn starch in properly.

On 29 February, Delia had soccer practice. Scott and I dropped her off and went to Whole Foods. We wandered around there and bought a few items then went back and sat in the car in the parking lot of the school where practice takes place. Scott has been listening to The Return of the King on CD, so we played a bit of that.

Saturday the 3rd of March, Delia had a soccer game at 9:40. It was, as usual, kind of depressing to watch. The ball is really hard to control on the gym floor, and the members of Delia's team don't always seem to know what they're doing. They have improved over the course of the season, according to Scott. I can't tell because I have trouble following the game. I sort of understand what's going on after years of watching Delia play, but it's hard for me to focus on the game unless she's on the field.

Scott's parents came to the game. They took us out for lunch afterward. We went to the Flattop Grill. That's one of those places where you fill a couple of bowls (one for meat, one for everything else), and they grill up the food for you. They have a system for signaling if one has allergy issues. In those cases, they cook the food in a separate wok that gets washed afterward. Scott, his mother and I all needed the special treatment. The meal was as a celebration of Scott's birthday. We'd have done it the previous week if he hadn't been so sick.

On Sunday the 4th, we went up to Scott's sister's place for our nephew's birthday party. We and his aunt on the other side ended up giving him the same thing-- the kung fu expansion for Munchkin. She'd bought her copy nearer to where they live, so she provided the receipt for them to exchange it. To exchange ours, he'd have had to get to Ann Arbor which isn't likely to happen. Our nephew is thirteen. That's definitely one of those how-did-that-happen moments.

Wednesday was Delia's last indoor soccer practice. The weather was beautiful. Scott and I were almost tempted to take a walk while she was practicing. Unfortunately, I needed to go get something to drink and a snack so that I could take my evening meds. We decided against Whole Foods when we saw that the parking lot was so packed that cars couldn't turn into it from the street. Instead, we went to Walgreens. After that, we listened to more of The Return of the King.

Thursday, Delia's school had hockey night. It's a fundraiser for fifth grade camp. They charge $5 a person (or $15 a family) to play floor hockey in the gym, they show a movie for free, and they sell hotdogs, chips, etc. Delia really wanted to go. She was particularly interested in the movie, Puss in Boots. I took my e-reader along because I wasn't going to play hockey and didn't care to court a migraine by attempting to watch the movie (the bigger the screen is that the picture's on, the greater the odds that I'll get a migraine). I ended up spending more time talking to other parents than I did reading which was fine. One of the other moms had interesting things to say about the social dynamics of Delia's class. Her daughter tells her things like who's the most popular and who's mean and so on. Delia simply doesn't want to talk about it.

Yesterday, we all went to the bank. We're applying to refinance our home. If it goes through, we'll be taking off most of a percentage point of interest and shifting from a thirty year fixed to a twenty-five year fixed. They're only considering Scott's income in the application. I'm not sure if that's because it's easier or if that's because they're assuming that I have no income. I mean, my disability income isn't much compared to Scott's salary, but it's far from nothing.

Today was Delia's last indoor soccer game. It briefly looked like the other team wouldn't have enough girls to field a full team. They even pulled in a younger sister to play on their team to make up numbers. Delia's coach actually asked his girls who would be willing to play for the other team. I'm not sure if he was serious or not, but nobody volunteered. Delia's team played pretty well but still lost. Delia almost scored a goal. We were disappointed because we've been wanting that achievement for her. She thinks it's important.

Outdoor soccer starts up in early April. Right now, Rec & Ed doesn't have coach for Delia's team. Scott has offered to be assistant coach, but he can't do the big job because of his unpredictable work schedule. He'd be too apt to miss games and practices with little or no notice. We're hopeful on the coach front, though. Delia's gym teacher says that one of the high school kids he coaches might be able to do it. He said he'd ask them. A high school age coach would be fine, especially when the alternative is someone like me who (a) doesn't know the rules of the game and (b) can't run or kick the ball or anything physical.

I want to know when soccer practices will be because Delia wants to sign up for the continuation of her Chinese class. If it doesn't conflict, we probably will. I also think that doing break dancing again wouldn't be a bad thing. I just don't want to sign up for classes that she can't attend.

Delia's break dance class will be participating in a dance show at the end of March. Fliers haven't come home about it, but Rec & Ed e-mailed us with the dates and such. Delia doesn't seem nervous about it, which is good. I'm not sure she really believes that it's going to happen. Scott's parents will be back from Seattle by then, so they expect to be able to attend.

I signed Delia up for two weeks of camp at the Leslie Science and Nature Center, one in June and one in August. I wish we could send her to camps elsewhere, too, but transportation is the big barrier. It would take us at least an hour to get to most other camps by bus, and I'd have to stay there all through the camp session because spending four hours on the bus in one day is more than I can face. Of course, if the transportation issue were magically solved, we probably couldn't afford more than two weeks of camp for the summer. It costs a lot of money.

Delia is adamant that she doesn't want to go to overnight camp this year. It's too bad because the Girl Scouts have some good programs, and one of her best friends will be going to some of them. Her family would be willing to help us out with transportation.

I've found a book that claims to have exercises for walking an anxious child through learning to manage fears and general anxiety. I'd like to try the exercises with Delia. I'd definitely do the exercises that parents are supposed to do. Delia, however, is reluctant. She sees it as an imposition that will take a lot of time. She's not willing to set aside an hour a week for it. I suspect, too, that she's not sure that stopping worrying would be a good thing-- After all, we might send her to sleep away camp again, and she doesn't want that because she's afraid of it.
