Mar. 12th, 2012 12:02 pmI signed up for Remix. I dithered over it, as usual, but I really wanted to do it. I had six fandoms I wanted to offer but the sign up form only allows five. I had to offer Weiss Kreuz since that's the one fandom I qualify to be remixed in, but the other four offers were difficult to narrow down. I'm terrified of matching with someone who writes far out of my comfort range. I've been lucky the last two years to match with writers of gen. Anything shippy will be a much greater challenge. I can do it, but it will take more doing.
My biggest hesitation over signing up for Remix was the fear that the Finishathon will overlap with it. I had to decide which one I'd rather do. Of course, I might be lucky and not have them overlap in terms of writing time. The Finishathon has a fairly long lead in time what with giving people time to sign up and then time to vote. I'm not sure I've got the right sort of plot bunnies for a good Finishathon this year. I don't have any short story ideas that I'm interested in putting forward, and I'm stalled out on all my works in progress. The Finishathon might shake something loose by giving me a deadline, but it also might not.
There wasn't a Weiss Day exchange this year. I didn't really notice it not happening until about a week ago. It's too bad. I had fun with it in years past. I expect that running it just got to be too much for the moderator. It had to be a lot of work, especially since there's no way to automate matching for something like that.
I realized a while ago that I kind of punctuate my year with writing challenges. I like doing them, and they make me produce stories that I'd never have thought of writing otherwise.
