Mar. 21st, 2012 05:13 pmMy grandfather is in the hospital. A couple of days ago, he fell in the shower and fractured his pelvis. I believe he also has a broken wrist, and there may be some broken or cracked ribs. He's not doing really well in the hospital. He has Alzheimer's, and he can't remember, from minute to minute, why he's there or that he needs to stay in bed. He keeps trying to get up.
He can't go home. Mom and her brothers will have to find a nursing home for him. It's really sad because they had good care set up for him in his home, with someone living there to be on call all the time (two care givers, one there for three weeks at a time with the other taking one week after each three week period). It was even a little cheaper than a nursing home. He was happy with that, at least as happy as he could be when he couldn't remember why this strange person was in his house. Now, he'll be in a strange place, surrounded by strangers.
I wish there was something I could do.
