I sliced my left pointer finger today. I was using scissors and misjudged where my finger was. It's really hard to touch type when I can't use one finger. That finger is meant to hit quite a lot of keys. The cut's pretty deep. It isn't bleeding anymore, however, so I'm going to see how it's doing tomorrow.

Today's volleyball game was at 12:30, so we didn't have to hurry through our morning routine. The game itself was much as usual. The team won the first game then lost the remaining two. Delia had a couple of good serves and one good return. One of the other girls has a lot of power but not so much control. She keeps bouncing balls off the ceiling. Every time she does that, the other team gets a point.

From the game, we went to Target. Cordelia has two birthday parties this weekend, and we needed to buy a present for the party today. Cordelia had something in mind. We had to search a little to find it. It was a particular Disney CD. We found part of a present for tomorrow's party-- a kit for making glow in the dark bracelets.

After today's party ended, we went to Applebee's for dinner. From there, we went to Michael's. Cordelia looked at and rejected all the kids' craft kits in the place but found a squeezable ball with long, smushable spikes. She said it's something she'd like to get as a gift herself, so she thinks her friend will like it. It's going to be impossible to wrap, so we'll likely put both items in a gift bag.

Scott and I currently plan to shop while Cordelia's at the party tomorrow. It runs three and a half hours, so we'll have some time. I just hope I don't run out of steam too fast. Our shopping opportunities are limited this year (last year, we did most of our shopping while Cordelia was at that climbing class. Having an hour and a half every week really helped). We have tomorrow and then one afternoon while Scott's sister takes Cordelia. It would be different if Cordelia could spend the night away from home, but there's no use hoping for that.

We have gotten Cordelia to face one fear, sort of. Every night, she listens to a CD we made from an old LP of mine-- Carl Sandburg reading some of his Rutabaga Stories. She can't go to sleep without it, but she's been saying that she's sick of it. Attempts to play other story CDs didn't work well. She gets too interested in the story to fall asleep. Scott got a CD of soothing music (I had suggested one of those with all sorts of nature sounds, but he couldn't find that when he went to Target). She was terrified of trying it. She worried that she wouldn't fall asleep and that that would lead to disaster. I told her that, if she didn't fall asleep by the time it ended, she could simply get out of bed and switch CDs to put in Rutabaga Stories. She didn't like that, but she went along with it. Last night, she fell asleep to the music. Tonight, she was still scared, but she was less so.
