I'm worried about Scott. He's almost certain to be pulling carts today. That means going outside regularly without a coat. Basically, the cart puller takes the bottles from where they've been made and bagged to the loading dock where there are trucks waiting to transport them. Inside the plant, it's usually at least 90 F. Outside, today, it's -40 F. Most of Scott's time will be spent inside, so wearing a coat doesn't make sense. Putting a coat on takes time, and the cart puller is perpetually behind the bottle production and in trouble over it (the cart puller also doesn't tend to get lunch or breaks. Scott says the supervisors clock the cart puller out for those things even though the cart puller doesn't get breaks).

When I went to shower today, there was ice on the inside of the glass block window in the shower enclosure. (We have no idea who thought it was a good idea to put a window in the tub enclosure. For several years, it was just a normal window that had to have a curtain. We got it replaced with glass block about eleven years ago. It's nice to have something opaque and difficult to break there.) I wiped down the window after I showered in an effort to minimize the ice. I have no idea if it worked. We don't seem to have ice on other windows, fortunately.

According to the National Weather Service website, the dangerous cold will persist through seven a.m. tomorrow. That's late enough to affect kids taking the bus to school. I wonder if they'll cancel school again. I don't much want another day of Cordelia sitting at home, watching tv and complaining that she doesn't like any of the food in the house, but I don't want kids getting frostbite while waiting for the bus, either.

Cordelia's teacher just e-mailed all the parents. Next week, on Tuesday, the class will be doing a winter survival field trip. This field trip is a tradition with the fifth graders at Cordelia's school. They'll go even if it's as cold as -10 F. They'll be out from 9:30-2:30 and will cook their own lunch. I'm going to have to try to find a hat Cordelia's willing to wear. She'll need one. Warmer socks would be good, too.

School has officially been canceled for tomorrow. I really hope they're back to school Thursday because I arranged for the A-Ride to pick us up from the school. If there's no school, we'll have to wait for the cab outside the school, and that will be really miserable, especially if the cab comes late.

The message from the school said that the roads in 'the outlying areas' are still impassable and that the cold temperatures are still a concern for kids walking to school or waiting at bus stops. There was also mention that they weren't sure the diesel buses could run under these circumstances.

Cordelia is disappointed, and so am I. I'm looking forward to writing time, and Cordelia is bored and lonely. At least I can be home with her. We're not scrambling to find daycare for her on very little notice.

We have several errands to run. I don't know when they'll happen. I've been trying to talk to Scott about them via chat and e-mail, but he just ignores that stuff a lot of the time. I don't want to bring it up in front of Cordelia because she doesn't see why we can't just do it now. Unfortunately, the errands are scattered all over town. They don't cluster neatly.
