I'm glad that it's only a week of the two extra kids before school. I have to be dressed and ready for them by 7:30 (though they rarely arrive before 7:45). On the days when I shower, that's nearly impossible. I'm just taking my bathrobe into the bathroom so that I have something to wear when I come out. Cordelia can let the kids in well enough.

Today's a do nothing day. With a little luck, I may do some writing. I need to do some writing. Beyond that, everything is optional. I can listen to music or play a computer game or nap if I want to. Even this evening, there's nothing that has to be done. We'll watch last night's Daily Show (Cordelia insists on watching the Daily Show with us) and Colbert Report (Cordelia will watch this if it's on, but she doesn't get the jokes). Maybe we'll finish up one of our Netflix DVDs. Scott and I are watching a Sharpe's Rifles DVD, and I'm watching Detective Dee and the Phantom Flame (I may have the title wrong. I'm too lazy to get up and check). Scott watched the first half of the Detective Dee thing with me, so I'm holding off on finishing it until he can watch too.

Oh-- I do have to cook today. Well, maybe. Scott hasn't given his final verdict as to whether or not the salty chicken is making him sick. If it is, I need to cook. If it isn't, I just need to come up with something Cordelia will eat. Maybe we'll finally try those baked beans we bought her.

Tomorrow, we'll be moving all day. I don't know exactly when the evening meeting (the one about the new program at Cordelia's school) will end. It starts at 6:30, and it could last more than two hours, depending. Scott will have to leave at 7:45 to go get Cordelia from soccer practice, but I should be able to stay to the end. The PTO is selling food before the meeting. Scott and I won't be buying because of our food restrictions, but I hope the PTO makes some money that way.

We're rid of the last of Cordelia's Girl Scout cookies. The last purchaser came by this morning and picked hers up. That's something of a relief-- no more boxes in the living room. Now all we have to do is to get my sister to pay for the cookies she ordered. (She's in the Atlanta area. We shipped them to her.)

We had four kids for dinner last night after all. Scott got three pizzas and an order of bread sticks. We had four pieces of pizza left at the end, and Scott complained that he only got one bread stick. I don't think anybody went away hungry.

I'm still not clear as to what the girls are doing for their science fair project. Well, I know they're bouncing balls to see which goes the highest, but I'm not sure what they're going to do with their data. I think there could be something interesting in looking at what the different balls are made of, but I don't know that they've thought about that. I do know that, so far, the small, hard bouncy ball is winning. They've only got one or two more balls to try, and I suspect neither of them will beat the small ball.

The school librarian gave me an e-mail address to which I could send my questions about next year's new program at Cordelia's school. I sent about a dozen questions, most specific to the situation for sixth graders. Hopefully, they'll address some of those points during the meeting tomorrow evening. They've already gotten back to me with kind of answers for some questions.

Sixth graders will have gym and music (but I asked about instrumental music not just music. There's a difference). Sixth graders will start and end school at the same time as the younger kids. Those start and end times may not end up being the same as what they are now (though I suspect, due to busing, they will be), but they will be the same for everybody. Sixth graders will still have access to the bus to get to school if they qualify to ride the bus this year. (I asked about busing because Cordelia's best friend rides the bus. If she couldn't take the bus, her parents would definitely send her to the middle school.)

The answer to my question about class size was a non-answer-- "Class size will be the same as class size now across the grades." Given that classes at the school currently run from twenty to thirty kids, that's quite a range. I guess they'll go up to thirty if there's enough interest and have smaller classes if there's less interest.
