Yesterday, we had a Girl Scout meeting at 4:30. Scott drove us over. I thought we should walk, but Cordelia really wanted a ride, and Scott wasn't against doing it.

The building where we meet is air conditioned but smelled a bit funny. It wasn't really a bad odor, but the troop leaders polled the girls, and it was decided that we'd meet outside. I don't know why they decided to set up on the west side of the building. There was an overhang, so there was shade while we were there, but it was gradually disappearing.

The meeting was all business. We're preparing for a trip to the Humane Society on the 9th and for a two night camping trip around July 4th (night of the 3rd into the morning of the 5th), so there was a lot to talk about.

I spent most of the meeting wishing I was somewhere else. I don't have enough patience for these details and for the girls getting distracted. I really, really wish I could avoid the camping trip, but Cordelia wants to go and won't go if I don't. I'm just useless at outdoor chores, uncomfortable with camping, and unable to do all of the supposedly fun activities that they're planning. I also have a lot of food restrictions and will probably have to bring food just for me. Somebody's bound to decide that hot dogs will make a good meal, and I can't eat those.

The girls spent the last half hour of the meeting setting up and disassembling tents. We're hoping that we have enough tents. We're also hoping that we have enough adults. Girl Scout rules say that no adult can sleep alone in a tent with girls. There must be at least two adults or no adults.

Scott grilled chicken and roasted sweet potatoes while we were at Girl Scouts. The chicken was a bit too charred for my taste (I don't generally like grilled food. I eat it in the summer because it's easier than the alternatives). The sweet potatoes were nice and will give us one more meal.

After dinner, we went shopping for shorts for Cordelia. A bunch of shorts that we bought for her turn out to be too small which leaves her with about four pairs of shorts. We went to Target and didn't find much. Most of what they had was the kind that doesn't fit. We found five pairs of shorts for her to try on. Three didn't fit. We bought the remaining two.

We considered doing more shopping (there's a Meijer's right there), but it was almost 9:00, and I wanted to get Cordelia to bed at a sensible time. We stopped for frosties on the way home. The line at the drive thru was long and slow. We'd have been better off parking and going inside. Unfortunately, we couldn't see the line from where we ordered.
