We're experimenting with letting Cordelia bike further away from home. She's eleven, so she's old enough to be allowed some latitude. She's not really interested in any of the available destinations, though. Wendy's and Book Bound require spending money which she doesn't want to do, and she's not willing to browse at the library, so going to the Traverwood library doesn't appeal. There's not much in either direction along Pontiac Trail, not unless she goes further than we currently want her to on her own. She does have a friend who lives on the other side of Pontiac Trail, but that friend isn't going to be at home during the day during the summer because her mother works (I don't think there's another adult in the picture). If she crosses Plymouth, there's a park she could go to, one that has a creek running through it. There's an Indian grocery and a Korean grocery right there, too, but again with the spending of money.

I woke today with a headache. Tylenol and a nap didn't entirely banish it. I swear, I seem to be getting a headache at night just from lying down. I don't think it's the arrangement of the pillows because lying down during the day doesn't produce the same response, just at night.

I forget yesterday-- I meant to go to the school for the ceremony to name the gym after the teacher who died last fall. Cordelia tells me that the ceremony was nice and fairly short. The school had to jump through several hoops to get permission to name the gym after Mr Dekeon, but they got final approval from the school board last Wednesday.

We've heard from the coach for Cordelia's softball team. The message went to thirteen parents, so there are probably thirteen or fourteen girls on the team (depends on whether the coach sent a copy of the message to his spouse. Some do; some don't). Practices will be Thursdays and Sundays for the next two weeks and then Sundays until August 8th. We don't know yet which nights we'll have games, but in past seasons, there have been two evening games a week. I hope we find out soon. If we need to change the scheduling of Scott's Babylon 5 game, the sooner we know the better.

I need to call [livejournal.com profile] cherydactyl. She called and left a voicemail while Cordelia and I were at camp, wanting to know if Cordelia doing science center camp this year. It may be too late to get back to her about it, but her daughter doing it might prompt Cordelia to decide to. Right now, she's reluctant because most of the camps include an overnight. I wish I could get her to realize that she really can do that sort of thing. I know that she can. It's just that she doesn't believe it and sabotages herself.

I also need to talk to a couple of mothers about a volleyball camp. Cordelia can go if one of them is willing to give her a ride there and back. (I'm even willing to ride along each way if that's easier.) I know Cordelia would like to do it. I just have to get my courage together and beg them for transportation. I need to do it promptly because the camp is the week after school ends.

There's some sort of problem with WCMU, the PBS station that airs my exercise programs. I turned on the TV today to find a cooking show airing instead of Body Electric. Comcast's channel guide claimed that Body Electric was on, so I checked WCMU's web page TV listings. They apparently have three channels. Two of them were airing Body Electric, and the third had the cooking show.

I e-mailed WCMU to ask what was going on and got a prompt response. The problem is with Comcast. They're picking up and airing the wrong channel. With luck, this will be resolved by tomorrow. It's just dreadfully annoying right now.

Scott's father has been at home for almost a week. They drove home the day Cordelia and I went to camp. He's to follow up with his own doctor and local specialists. He won't be well enough for the annual Father's Day golf outing, so Scott won't be going either. Being with is father is the whole point of golf for Scott. He doesn't enjoy it for its own sake.

I called my parents the other day and got my step-father. He told me that my mother was napping, that she wasn't feeling well and hadn't been sleeping. I couldn't tell from what he said just how worried I should be. Well, I have some idea. My mother's always been a regular sleeper, asleep at nine and up at five. Something disrupting that-- Well, that's kind of major. I've called back several times, hoping to talk to her, but I keep getting the answering machine which worries me more. The odds of my parents calling me, no matter what's going on, are miniscule.
