Cordelia did hunt for the plastic eggs with candy in them, but she wasn't very enthusiastic and didn't do it until about 10:30 or 11:00 (she'd been up since at least 9:00). She complained that Scott hadn't presorted the jellybeans to remove the yellow and orange ones which she dislikes. She was also unimpressed by the puzzle he made for her-- He hid an iTunes card for her and took a picture of the hiding place. Then he printed the picture and cut it into pieces. Each piece went into an egg with some candy so that she could complete the picture once she'd found all the eggs. She said something like, "Oh, it's only a stupid $25 iTunes card." Scott was hurt and disappointed.

Scott discovered that we were out of both Jiffy mix and almond milk when he went to make waffles. Usually, I check those when I make the grocery list, but I couldn't this time, so those items weren't on the list. He made the waffles anyway, but they came out kind of heavy.

Scott sliced the bread. Then he had Cordelia deal with cutting up and cooking the broccoli while he did the dishes and the final load of laundry. Cordelia tried to avoid the chore, but she finally did it.

For some reason, we sat around and did nothing well past the time when we should have left. We were expected at 2:30, and it's a half hour drive, but we didn't leave until 2;25. We stopped at Burger King on the way so that I could take some medication that needed to be taken with food. If we'd realized how early dinner was going to be, I don't think we'd have bothered.

We were the last ones there, so we had to park rather a long way from the house (still in the driveway, just a long way back). That was hard on me. It took me several minutes to get to the house. This was Scott's sister's in-laws' house. There were about sixteen people present, including us.

I sat on their couch both before and after dinner. It leads me to conclude that it's not just sitting for so long that's making my butt hurt-- It's sitting for so long on our couch that's doing it. Their couch was quite comfortable. Maybe I should try additional cushions or something.

Dinner was a little frustrating because Scott filled my plate with what he likes rather than with what I wanted. He had to guess what to give me because our hostess had insisted on getting me seated at the table before people started getting food. I sent him back because I wanted some of the mashed potatoes. He was kind of irritable about that. The meat was pork (there was ham, too, but I don't get along well with ham). I didn't entirely care for how it was seasoned. It wasn't terrible; it just wasn't quite to my taste. The sweet potatoes, too, weren't really to my taste. Again, they weren't awful; they just weren't how I prefer them.

Cordelia and our niece, who's a year and a half older, hid plastic eggs outside for the two younger boys who were there. Cordelia said, afterward, that hiding the eggs and watching while the boys searched was more fun than searching herself would have been.

After that, we had dessert. There were brownies and chocolate pie and peach cobbler. I had a brownie and a sliver of pie. Then I moved back into the living room, back to the couch. The chair I sat on for dinner and dessert was fairly uncomfortable, so moving was a relief even though there was one point in the trip where there almost wasn't enough room to get through.

People played a couple of games while I sat on the couch. At first, I had some company, but once the game of Telestrations started, I was on my own. Well, Scott's sister's father-in-law was there, too, but he was asleep, so he wasn't up for conversation.

We left for home about 7:30. I was pretty brain fried given that I didn't do much but sit there. When we got home, I had some triscuits and my evening medications (Scott objects to calling them 'medications' given that the evening ones are just vitamins these days, but I find it easier to call all of them medications). We watched a couple of episodes of Whose Line Is It Anyway. Cordelia has decided that she likes that show, too. It's one of Scott's favorites. After that, we couldn't find much on and ended up watching bits of John Carter.

Cordelia had an awful time finding my medications this morning. She has no idea how to read a medication bottle. I ended up having to get myself in there and find the second medication myself. It was right in front of her, right next to the one she'd found; she just didn't know where to look to find the name of the medication.

We're expecting Cordelia's friend and her younger brother any minute now. I don't know if their mother is sending lunch with them or if I'll be talking them through making mac 'n' cheese come lunch time. I'm sure the kids can manage that. They won't be enthusiastic about the idea, but it's well within their abilities.

As I go through the week, I tend to collect the urls of things I happen across that I think might fit a [community profile] metanews post. I think it's just part of being a link finder. This week, though, I've got over a dozen links about the situation with the Hugo nominees. That seems like a lot on the same subject, but I don't want to try to judge which are the most informative or which have the best discussions or whatever. I'm inclined to think that we should include them but, instead of putting them all under 'General Fandom,' should make a category for 'Hugo Awards' under 'Specific Fandoms.'

I'm torn, though-- I feel like, if we're going to link essays about the Hugos at all, we should probably link something from the Sad Puppies/Rabid Puppies side, but I'll be damned if I'm willing to go looking for that. From what I've gathered, I'd be thoroughly disgusted by what I found, and I'm reluctant to send traffic to such places by linking to them.

And, on a completely different topic, I should try calling Cordelia (probably just to find out that she left her phone at home). She and the other tow kids went out to the park about 45 minutes ago. They said they'd be gone 30 minutes. I'm not particularly worried, but I would like them to come home when they said they would. Of course, if Cordelia left her phone at home, they have no way to measure time.
