Jun. 9th, 2015 11:19 amCordelia is still reading the Cassandra Clare book she has out of the library even though she said she wasn't going to. I'm confused. I think it's because her friends have read the book and keep telling her it's great. I'm of the opinion that, if she isn't enjoying it, she shouldn't make herself keep reading, but I'm staying out of it.
My cold is still not too awful, so I'm hoping that I'm not going to get it really badly. Scott is still coughing like crazy, but he thinks he's starting to cough a bit less.
The situation where Scott works is likely to get worse over the next few weeks. It looks like none of the new hires for second shift are going to stay, and the folks on third shift are starting to fall apart to the point that Scott expects some of them to be gone soon, too. That will leave first shift as the only one fully staffed, and pretty much everyone will be working twelve hour shifts every day. Scott also says that the guy who does the production schedule isn't paying attention to staffing levels and has scheduled more work per shift than even a fully staffed shift can do.
I did some link finding yesterday. I think I'm on schedule to finish that today or, at worst, tomorrow morning. Cordelia wants me to get up with her at 6:00. Her field trip leaves at 7:15, so the kids have to be at school a full hour earlier than normal. At any rate, that will mean I'm up much earlier than I normally would be (possibly even early enough that I have to wait my morning meds and my coffee for a while after I get up, just to let enough time pass after my thyroid med). I might try to go back to sleep after Cordelia leaves, but I might be too awake for that. I don't know.
I am annoyed that the school has banned cell phones on the field trip. I suppose I can understand it, but I would like Cordelia to have a way to reach me if something goes wrong. The school office will close about 3:30, and the field trip isn't scheduled to end until about 7:30. That's four hours when the teachers won't have access to parental contact information.
I need to do the dishes after I post this. We're completely out of plates and almost out of silverware. Scott actually bought us pizza last night because it was easier than trying to figure out some microwave safe way to heat up our leftovers.
There's a meeting at the school at 5:00 today to give parents more information about the school's middle school program. I wasn't going to go, but Cordelia thinks it's important that I do. There's also a lot of talk about it on the sixth grade parent email list that makes it sound like going might be worthwhile. The big question everyone seems to have is whether or not seventh graders will have recess. The sixth graders have, most days, and it seems to help a lot of kids, or, at least, a lot of parents think so. I'm not sure how Cordelia would do without recess. I have the impression that she enjoys it, even though the sixth graders aren't allowed to use the playground equipment if any of the younger kids are on the playground. Still, the normal middle schools don't do recess. I've heard that the other K-8 school does it all the way through, however. I don't know.
I can't seem to get a Christine Lavin CD from the library that will play past the first song. It's disappointing because I've heard good things about her music. I will try my scratch remover thingy on the one I've currently got, but I'm not holding my breath.
