I woke this morning with a nasty headache, bad enough that I took medication and asked Cordelia if she'd be okay if I went back to bed. She assured me that she'd be fine, and really, I don't do anything in the mornings except hang out in the living room while she gets ready. This is, however, the first time she's gone it alone. As far as I can tell, she got off to school fine. Her viola isn't here, so she remembered that (not that I ever need to remind her). When I finally got up, about three hours later, I still had a headache but not nearly as bad. I took Tylenol which helped kick the headache to the curb, and I feel decent now. I have no idea why a headache now. Usually, when I wake up with a headache, it means my period is starting, but that just ended, so it can't be that.

We used most of the leftover turkey last night to make soup. Scott wanted it to supplement the turkey turnovers, so we did that, but I felt like a bowl of soup and a turkey turnover was too much food. I guess, for Scott who tends to eat three turkey turnovers for dinner, the soup really was just a supplement. I think, though, that we'll still need to cook on Thursday, and I'm not sure we've got anything cookable. I didn't ask Scott to get any meat this week because of the leftover turkey, and I forgot to have him pick up potstickers (our go to meal for when we don't have a lot of time to cook and don't have any leftovers) either.

I have a nasty little lump on my back. Two nights ago, I asked Scott to take a look. It didn't seem to be doing anything, didn't hurt or anything, so I was expecting I'd just bring it up when I have my annual physical with my doctor at the beginning of February. When Scott touched it, however, (and without him really applying pressure) it started oozing pus. He got out more than enough to cover a fingernail. After that, we applied astringent and left it for the night.

The next day, during the day, I kept touching it, and it kept leaking. After Cordelia went to bed, Scott took another look at it and got an awful lot of junk out of it. He kept thinking he was done, and then there'd be a lot more coming. Scott expressed the opinion that I ought to consider going to the doctor for it.

Today, there's still a lump, but it's not leaking. It hurts to touch, but I think it's smaller than it was. At this point, I'm not sure about calling for a doctor's appointment. I couldn't get in until some time next week (Thursdays are impossible, and I have another appointment on Friday this week), and I think it might be gone by then. Maybe I'll call UHS and ask to speak to the triage nurse and get their opinion on it. Sleeping in has really disrupted my day.

I still need to bake bread today. Fortunately, that doesn't take a lot of time or effort. The most difficult part of it will be cleaning out the pan. I've got that soaking now. I'll give it fifteen to twenty minutes and hope that's long enough for the paddles to come loose. I'd like to get the bread in by 2:00, so that the bread has time to cool before we put it away tonight. It takes three hours and forty five minutes for the bread machine to run its basic cycle.

I finally got around to posting "How Old My Heart" on fanfiction.net. Cordelia came over just after I'd finished. She wasn't curious about the story, but she did recognize the site.

Cordelia's been demanding that I come up with things for her to read and then rejecting everything I suggest. I did suggest that she go and browse our shelves for herself, but she didn't want to do that, either. She says the basement is too scary. Me offering to go down there with her didn't help in the least. It's a pity. I think she'd enjoy some of the books we have down there (or up here for that matter). She says, though, that our books are 'too old.' She wants new books, books like Divergent and The Heroes of Olympus.

There is a copy of The Hunger Games waiting for us at the library; she asked me to put a hold on it pretty much as soon as she finished Allegiant. The hold expires on Saturday (the book came in about an hour after we visited the library on Sunday, and they only hold books for six days), but I will be downtown for an appointment on Friday, so I can pick it up then. I probably won't pick up my other holds then, however, having things due on Sunday is better for me (one of my waiting holds is a DVD with a waitlist. That will be due exactly a week from whenever I check it out, and getting it back to the library midweek would be a pain), and The Hunger Games hold is the only one that will expire before our next normal visit.

Betting on a sebaceous cyst on your back, and it got inflamed/infected. If I'm right, it will recur in that same spot from time to time. I have one that's shown up so often, my husband calls it "Old Faithful." Mine don't get infected very often, but my scalp ones often get sore. The dermatologist says leave them alone unless they actually get infected (which it sounds as though your did).

(They can run in families; my late father had them too.)

I am so hit-or-miss with recommending books to my daughter! But I have to admit that she's far more likely to take my book recommendations than I am to take hers, which is silly of me, because she actually has pretty good taste.
