Today is our 22nd anniversary.
I'm happy about that, but I don't know that Scott and I will actually have energy to celebrate. Scott got fairly sick last night-- an allergic reaction to who knows what. He and I had chicken and steamed green beans for dinner last, both leftovers from earlier meals. And dinner was really too recent to have caused him problems. Usually, it takes about six hours. A problem with lunch is possible, but it had been fully nine hours since lunch when he started having trouble.
If it was a problem with lunch, there are a couple of possibilities. He had leftovers from the pizza we bought for Cordelia for Wednesday dinner. This might be an issue of beef cross contamination. We've never had that problem with Cottage Inn before, but who knows? The other possibility is that he's starting to have trouble with pork. There was bacon on the pizza. He's had trouble with beef for seventeen or eighteen years but has never had any difficulty with pork. He also ate pork last Sunday without any ill effect.
It was very definitely his usual allergic reaction, though. His face and hands swelled and itched and turned red, and he had to spend a lot of time in the bathroom. Benadryl helped, fortunately, and he was able to sleep starting around 1:00.
At any rate, Scott's probably going to spend the day in bed. He won't eat anything but saltines, applesauce, and, maybe, oatmeal. He should be able to return to work tomorrow.
I woke this morning with a headache. I don't know if the weather's changing, if my period's approaching, or if getting to sleep later than usual last night provoked it. I'm not sure it matters.
My other difficulty started yesterday evening. There's a pinching feeling in my left shoulder that's gotten bad enough to limit my use of my left arm. I can't type with my left hand. I can't lift even a mostly empty kettle, either. Reaching out in front of me seems to be the main issue. Raising my arm sideways hurts at first, but once I get past a certain point fairly early on, I'm fine. That should let me brush my hair and get dressed. I hope. I can also move my arm backward without pain. It came on fairly suddenly, yesterday evening after dinner. I can't think of anything unusual I did.
I am thinking to make an appointment to see my doctor. It'll take a few days to see somebody, and this might go away in the meantime, but I'm not sure it will get better quickly. Also, my mother had shoulder problems that eventually required surgery, and I don't want to ignore this.
Cordelia walked to the Traverwood library yesterday. She wanted to get out of the house while the cleaning lady was here. By the time Cordelia got home, she was pretty worn out. I think walking that far, especially alone, was harder than she expected. She didn't get any new books because her library card has expired and we're pretty sure that either Scott or I need to go with her to renew it. Doing that requires proof of residency, and it's not like Cordelia has any way to provide that on her own.
Scott's parents are planning to come down early this afternoon to take Cordelia to the planetarium and then back to their place for the night. We haven't figured out yet how we'll get her back. Scott's working tomorrow which complicates things, especially if we want him to do the grocery shopping the way he normally would.
The anniversary present I ordered for Scott last Saturday only shipped yesterday. I'm more than a little peeved because Scott and I meticulously followed all the instructions for him to share his Amazon Prime two day shipping with me, but that seems to have vanished completely
I was hoping for a pleasant anniversary.

Date: 2015-06-26 04:11 pm (UTC)I have an appointment this afternoon to see a doctor at the clinic I go to, not someone I've ever seen before but still someone. I'm very, very glad they could get me in so quickly.

Date: 2015-06-26 06:13 pm (UTC)And my sympathies on the allergic reaction. I had one last night, too. The day before we had dinner at a Chinese buffet where I have never had any problems before. I don't know what I was thinking, but I decided to try the hibachi grill station for the first time, and it didn't occur to me until after I started eating that they don't wash that grill between orders, they just scrape it down. So I took a Zyrtec as soon as I got home, just in case, and everything was fine.
But then last night when the Zyrtec started to wear off, my face started to get all red and itchy. I popped another Zyrtec and had a very uncomfortable hour until it started working again. My husband is out of town and I was worried that it would get worse and I would have to deal with it on my own.
My allergist said that when people start becoming allergic to a new alpha-gal meat, it often starts out as problems with only the high-fat cuts, while the lean cuts are still fine. So maybe that's part of the story for Scott?

Sunday's pork was pork bratwurst. I'm not sure how lean those were. I suppose we'll find out. I did stop Scott from eating more of the leftover pizza. He was all set to have some for lunch today on the theory that it wouldn't keep until Cordelia's back to eat it. I was ready to smack him.
I mentioned Scott's allergy issue today when I was at the doctor, and the doctor I was seeing was of the opinion that I should have gotten Scott to the ER. He's never had trouble breathing from it, so it didn't occur to us a possibly necessary. We are only five minutes away from a hospital if it ever comes to that. Of course, with me unable to drive, it becomes more complicated.
