I got an annoying comment on a fic recently. Basically, the commenter told me that I ought to continue the story and be sure to include a specific pairing (involving a character not in the fic) and specific plot points (involving a character already dead when the fic starts). I don’t think I can answer this comment, not and keep my temper. The story is a gen crossover and complete as it stands. Yeah, InuYasha/Labyrinth is probably not a common crossover combination, but… I think I would be less annoyed if the comment actually said something about liking the fic, but it doesn’t.

My pharmacy has notified me that they’re not happy with my combination of medications. Specifically, they’re worried that I’m taking both Wellbutrin and Tamoxifen. Apparently Wellbutrin can make Tamoxifen work less well. I guess I’m going to have to talk to my psychiatrist and my oncologist and make sure that this really is what I should be doing. They both have full lists of my meds, and my psychiatrist, at least, has been paying attention to that. I wouldn’t mind giving up the Wellbutrin as I’m not convinced that it’s doing anything, but it’s not a medication I can just suddenly stop without giving myself all sorts of unpleasant problems. I’ve also gotten the impression from my oncologist that there are new developments in terms of understanding how Tamoxifen works and that things that were thought to interfere with it are now known not to (this came up with regard to Ketaconozale, the stuff I use for athlete’s foot). I have no idea if that applies to combining Tamoxifen with Wellbutrin or not, so I expect I’d better ask.

Yeah, pretty much.

I mean, if I'd asked for prompts or if the comment came from someone I knew well and liked, that would be different (to some extent. I think I'd still object to the whole not saying anything nice about the original fic) because I'm willing to have friends suggest ideas as long as they understand that I've got a list of dozens of possible fics and will end up writing only a very few of them.

But a stranger on FFnet? Not so much.

I've found that if I feel the need to respond to an annoying comment, I default to, "Glad you enjoyed the story!"

Because, really, that kind of comment is eyeroll-worthy.

In this case, I probably just won't answer. The commenter doesn't actually say that they liked the story. The closest they come to saying they liked it is, "Even though this story is listed as completed, it has a very clever beginning." The two parts of that sentence don't connect logically, so I have to assume that they meant something else. My best guess is that it should actually say, "Even though this story is listed as complete, it would make a clever beginning for this fic I actually want."

I usually tell people that's a lovely idea I have no plan on writing, and they should definitely express their creativity by writing it themselves. :)

Good luck with the medication issues too. Those don't sound great.

I have to decide if I'm going to respond at all. I'm not sure that I'm polite enough to given that I have year old comments that are actually nice that I haven't answered yet.

I'm sure we'll work out the medication issues. It's just annoying to have to. Thanks for the good wishes.

Good luck with the medication issues. I did have one pharmacist let me know that med A could impact the effectiveness of my birth control. I was taking birth control for cramps rather than stopping pregnancies, but it was definitely something I wanted to know.

Well, in addition to the question of whether or not I should be taking Wellbutrin with Tamoxifen, there's a question about my birth control. None of my doctors have mentioned it, but I keep running into things online that say that I shouldn't have a hormonal IUD while on Tamoxifen. I'm not clear, from what I'm finding, if that's because the IUD won't work as well or because the Tamoxifen won't work as well or even just because having an estrogen positive tumor means that hormonal contraception of any kind is contraindicated. It might actually be all three.

it *could* be because the IUD doesn't work as well? the med I was on was a mood stabilizer (Tramadol) and basically I think there was a thing of "we cannot guarantee the HBC will be as effective while you are on this."

I've got a few comments like that. I don't Think it's possible to answer them. I find them very strange too- to demand something and totally disregard what the authour strived for. (My personal favourites are the one who said I would be a gret writer if I just stopped Writing that icky het).

I just don't get comments like the one about not writing 'that icky het.' I mean, really, people, not all writers have to write stories that you will enjoy. It's actually okay for people to like different things and for writers to write what they're interested in.

I write a lot of one shots for exchanges in fandoms that I'm not otherwise into. I see a big difference between, "If you ever write more of this, I would love to read it!" and "This is a good first chapter. When will you post the second chapter?" (That last comment came, in variations, from two different people on a Yuletide fic clearly marked as complete.)

Exactly! I usually find myself in the corner of a fandom, Writing less popular pairings. But that's what I enjoy writing- I wouldn't enjoy Writing something just because it's popular.

The wording makes a huge difference! I find it flattering if someone say steh y loved it and wished there were more. But people demanding things- well, no.
