My body is giving me a hard time again this morning. I think that last night’s birthday dinner did me no favors and that trying to eat the leftovers for breakfast was a mistake. Fried foods are apparently Not Good right now. It might also be because I had a little bit of fruit last night. Fruit seems to give me more problems than vegetables do. It’s always been that way, and I don’t know why. I’m not sure what’s in fruit that’s not in vegetables.

We went to the local Japanese restaurant for dinner last night because Cordelia wanted California rolls. She’s getting more adventurous in terms of trying different things off the sushi menu.

Of the three books I ordered from Bookbound for Cordelia’s birthday, only two came in. They’re not sure when they’ll have the third, possibly Friday. The three books are part of a seven book series. Cordelia already owned the first three, and I ordered the seventh from Amazon because the guy at Bookbound said he couldn’t get it in time for Cordelia’s birthday. All three of the others, he promised me, would be in some time yesterday afternoon.

In terms of Ingress, portals in the neighborhood turned over four or five times last night. One guy from the other side took out our science center portals at 4 a.m. when the park was officially closed. I’d like to take back some of the less heavily defended portals, but that’s going to depend on how I’m feeling later. I’m currently waiting for a cab to take me to an appointment, and I don’t know how I’m going to feel after. If I feel good, I may walk around campus a bit. I don’t know.

Hmm. I hesitate to say this because odds are you are familiar, but are you familiar with the low FODMAP diet for IBS? There are quite a few problematic fruits and some problematic vegetables. (Types of carbohydrates are the problem, and fruits in general have more sugars.)

Stress can and does trigger/exacerbate IBS, but so do foods with FODMAPs. It's possible that while you're under stress, it might be worth seeing if a low-FODMAP diet helps - or even shifting just a few items that direction. (If you decide you want to look at that, Stanford has a good PDF listing of low vs. high FODMAP foods.)

Some fruit, like blackberries, bother me. Its a shame cause I love them. Usually, fruits with seeds will bother ibs. I can eat other fruit, in moderation though. Too much watermelon does a number on me.

We went out last night with a group of Ingress players that were all hacking portals, trading gear, drinking beer and talking. It was a lot of fun so I'm even more intrigued by this wacky game.

At risk of driving you crazy: Have you considered trying gluten-free for a few weeks, to see if that helps?

Fruit has far more fructose than vegetables, so it could be that your body doesn't produce enough of the fructase enzyme that helps to digest the fructose. This is similar to lactose intolerance, but for fructose instead of lactose. (And both can be connected to celiac disease: Villi are tiny bumps in the small intestine that absorb nutrients from food, and they also produce both lactase and fructase. In celiac disease, the immune system attacks the villi, which random prevents absorption of some nutrients, and it also damages their ability to produce those enzymes.)

Another thought: Have you tried taking digestive enzymes? Those usually include the enzymes to digest fructose, so if you are having fructose intolerance issues, enzymes should help. Digestive enzymes were life-changing to me, so I am a big fan. Unless you are sensitive to a component that they are made from, they are very safe to try. The kind I take is called "Enzymedica Digest Gold." From what you have said, this sounds like it could potentially be a really good match to the problems you've been having.

Probiotics can help too. I would say that taking digestive enzymes solved about 85% of my problems, and probiotics were the other 15%.

(I know nobody else but me cares, but that should say "randomly," not "random." I tried editing it, but LiveJournal said I can't because someone (me!) has replied to it.)
