Grandpa is at home now. He's got a walker and a hospital bed. He's apparently not moving around as much as the physical therapist would like, but there's not a lot to do about that. At least he's using the walker and the hospital bed. My mother hopes to be able to go home in a day or two. (She needs to get back to work so that she can pay her share of Grandpa's care.)
Delia finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. She's quite pleased with herself over it. We've started the first Percy Jackson book, and she listens eagerly, but when asked about the book, she labels it 'boring.' I'm still hoping that she'll get into Riordan's books. The fact that her cousins have read them should be a draw.
My Remix writing is going very slowly. I've got 158 words (one day's work). My goal is to add at least 100 words a day until the dratted thing is done. The story is resisting, just a bit. I'm wrestling with the point of view and with logical consequences. I'm already getting ahead of myself and thinking about who to ask to beta read. I'm not sure who I know who can beta in this fandom (and I can't specify the fandom because this is supposed to be anonymous). Most people probably know at least a bit about this fandom. I may put out a general call here when I have more written.
After a week of beautiful weather, days in the 70s and even 80s, this weekend is cold and wet. Delia is outside, roller skating, anyway, and Scott has to work on the garage door. The dratted thing hasn't shut in a couple of years, and we recently discovered that somebody has walked off with our snow thrower. We want to be able to shut the garage door so that nobody walks off with the bikes or the lawn mower. We were already keeping the car locked after hearing about several car break ins in the neighborhood, and I've been keeping the house locked up while I'm home alone during the day because there have been recent home break ins just a couple of blocks away.
I was going to volunteer at the school yesterday. They're painting one of the hallways, and while I knew I couldn't manage wall washing or actual painting, I thought I might be able to do some taping. At least, I hoped I'd be able to. I didn't end up going because a friend called to ask if I could watch her daughter while she went to lunch. 'Lunch' ended up lasting until 3:00, right when the volunteer session ended. There was a later session of taping, but I couldn't go to that because Delia had a friend over. I couldn't leave the two of them while Scott was in the shower. If it had just been Delia, I might have done. I trust Delia to play by herself while the adult at home showers.

Date: 2012-03-25 12:50 am (UTC)Scary about the home break-ins in your neighborhood, and the disappearance of the snow-thrower. (Though if it had to be missing in the wintertime, this was a good winter for it.) And also scary about your mom needing to be working in order to pay for your grandfather's care. I hope she is doing okay and not going underwater trying to pay for that.

Date: 2012-03-25 01:26 am (UTC)Mom is splitting the cost of the care with her two surviving brothers, so it's not all on her.
We don't know when the snow blower vanished. It could have happened months ago or two or three days ago. The garage door is presenting difficulties. Something chewed through two cables (one on each side of the door). That disconnected a couple of safety sensors so that the door automatically pops back up when it gets part way down.
